Our lives are getting more and more stressful with countless distractions and almost no time to fit exercise into our schedules. This is a paradox because the more stressful and distracted we are, the more we need to take care of ourselves by eating healthfully and exercising consistently. Our lives are getting more and more stressful with countless distractions and almost no time to fit exercise into our schedules. This is a paradox because the more stressful and distracted we are, the more we need to take care of ourselves by eating healthfully and exercising consistently.
It’s sometimes difficult to make time to stay fit and remain healthy so we have compiled some everyday fitness hacks. Hack your fitness life and allow you to manage your time while taking care of your body.
1. Drink Water after Every Meal
This is a simple hack that you may already be doing without knowing the good it does your body. Not only does this activity help you stay hydrated throughout the day, but drinking water aids digestion. Water (and some other liquids) helps dissolve food and aid absorption of nutrients in the digestive system.
2. Start Each Day with a Glass of Lime Water
Another great way of staying hydrated and getting a boost of energy as soon as you wake up is cutting a lemon in half and squeezing it into a nice glass of cold water. This will help balance your body’s PH level helping you stay energized as well as keeping your internal organs running properly.
3. Drink Chocolate Milk
Many people drink a protein shake and eat some carbohydrates after exercising. This is a good plan since the body demands these nutrients after a workout to repair itself. However, a better alternative is drinking low fat chocolate milk. Not only is this a very tasty way to get nutrients; it also has the needed carbs that your body requires.
I’ve seen people at the gym doing strenuous workouts and some stretch before their workouts, but many don’t stretch after. Stretching is a tremendous way to prevent stiffness and soreness. Right after exercising, take four to five minutes to stretch your whole body and you will be grateful you did. Even if you’re in the gym for no more than thirty minutes, make sure you spend the last five stretching.
5. Incorporate Quick Exercises
The main excuse people don’t exercise is because they “don’t have time.” The reality is we all have the same twenty-four hours and though you may work a 9 to 5 job, there’s opportunity for quick calisthenics. For example, when cooking, you can do ten push ups. While watching T.V., do fifteen burpees or sit ups during commercial breaks. There’s always time, you just have to make it.
6. Use Your Home as a Gym
We agree that going to the gym and paying a membership is a big financial commitment, but that can’t stop you from staying healthy and exercising. Use your home or apartment as a small gym. Milk gallons can serve as free weights; you can purchase a pull-up bar and place it in your bedroom door. Buy a yoga mat, an ab roller, and watch some YouTube to find exercises. And, if you really want to make a “real” gym, turn the garage into one.
7. Get a Good Music Playlist
A good music playlist help motivate you and raise your mood. The tempo helps encourage you to move and keep pace. If your gym has a poor music selection, spend some time curating a playlist that gets you pumped or use an app such as Spotify and listen to their workout playlists.
8. Use Technology to Your Advantage
You don’t have to keep track of everything, but one misconception is that we need to track every single movement we make in order to keep track of our health. This is not true. All you have to do is keep track of what you eat, and know how much of that is lost with each exercise. We recommend using apps like Myfitnesspal to keep track of what you eat and FitBod to keep track of how many calories you lose in each exercise.
9. Take The Stairs
The main idea of living a healthy life is using your body whenever you can. This means NEVER using the elevator or escalator if you can take stairs. It means walking or biking instead of driving, and helping people lift objects. Taking the stairs will help you get a short boost of cardio, and if your job location has many stairs, you will have found your very own fitness hack.
10. Sleep in Workout Clothes
This hack is probably my favourite. Sleeping in your clothes will make it easier to roll out of bed and hit the gym. Pack your toiletries and clothes for the day so you can shower and get ready after your workout.
There you have it, the top ten everyday fitness hacks you need to know. Even doing five of these will help you live a healthier life, but doing all ten will have a very positive effect in your life. The most important thing is to stay consistent and don’t give up.
